Development and Communications Associate

Position Description 

The Development and Communications Associate (DevCom Assoc.) will support the Development and Communications Manager (DevCom Manager) in The Women’s Bakery communications, marketing, and fundraising. With direction from the DevCom Manager, the DevCom Assoc. is responsible for implementing the communications and marketing strategy to build awareness of the TWB brand and increase bakery sales. The DevCom Assoc. reports directly to the DevCom Manager. 



This is a full-time, 45 hour per week position. Weekend and evening hours may be required on occasion. This position may be remote or in person, depending on office accessibility. Access to high speed internet and a personal computer is required. 

This position is required to travel to all TWB bakery sites as needed to connect with team members. Additional travel to be determined on an annual basis.


Roles & Responsibilities

Communications and Marketing: Internal and External (60%)

  • Oversee social media handles in the US and Rwanda. 
  • Manage internal TWB communications, including Baker’s Corner.
  • Create campaigns and related materials to increase sales and brand awareness. 
  • Oversee photography, videography, and communications consultants in Rwanda. 
  • Help to create and oversee on-brand communication internally and externally. 
  • Monitor TWB’s media presence and pursue new opportunities for publicity when appropriate. 
  • Collect and share stories from bakery operations and social impact teams. 
  • Support external communications, including newsletters and blog posts. 
  • Manage and update TWB’s websites: and 


Development (15%)

  • Support DevCom team to build and implement integrated fundraising campaigns throughout the year including Giving Tuesday, Spring Appeal, and End of Year (EOY) appeal.
  • Support the DevCom Team with implementing the fundraising strategy, including major donor efforts.


Event Planning and Support (15%)

  • Plan and coordinate events to support marketing and fundraising efforts. 


Administrative (10%)

  • Attend meetings as required. 
  • Other projects as assigned by DevCom Manager.

Required Qualifications 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail

  • Experience using MS office suite, Google, and Canva
  • A willingness to think creatively to find solutions, build and document processes

  • Savvy with social media and technology
  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and work collaboratively
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda – must be able to read, write, and speak fluently both languages


Preferred Qualifications 
  • 2 years or more of university education.


Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range for this position is 700,000 – 900,000 rwf/month.
