Wavumbuzi Program – School Liaison

Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy (AGGP) has embarked on a journey to develop responsible entrepreneurs across the African continent in service of the common good. AGGP utilizes a long-term strategy in developing exceptional value-driven, high-impact responsible entrepreneurship for the purpose of job creation and poverty alleviation. Wavumbuzi – one of the programs supported by AGGP – is a free annual six-week online entrepreneurship challenge focused on developing the entrepreneurial mindset of secondary / high school learners throughout the country.

 

ROLE FOCUS

The primary aim of this role is to build relationships with teachers and expand the network of schools that participate in the Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge. They will also be responsible for managing Wavumbuzi Ambassadors – a Recruitment and Onboarding team on the ground. Hence the role includes conducting training sessions for teachers, coordinating activations at schools, making presentations at various exhibitions and forums, managing teacher support, moderating learner submissions, and coordinating the celebration of top achievers.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Relationship Management

  • Active identifying, recruiting and stewarding of partners, heads / principals, teachers, and learners
  • Sourcing feedback from schools participating in the challenge to inform recruitment/engagement strategy
  • Coordinating complex professional networks to achieve the program’s objectives
  • Identifying opportunities and making connections to deliver value to challenge participants
  • Remaining updated about any news or current affairs in the education sector
  • Maintaining awareness of the shifting challenges and opportunities in the education landscape
  • Facilitating several community groups of practice (via WhatsApp and Facebook)
  • Regularly motivating and inspiring challenge participants
  • Making suggestions to the Country Lead and others in the leadership team on strategies that expand reach of the Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge to learners throughout the country
  • Adhering to the Child Protection Policy and working closely with the Country Lead in ensuring knowledge of, and compliance to, the policy by all talent, Wavumbuzi Ambassadors and mentors

 

CRM Management

  • Regular updating/capturing of data profiles for Wavumbuzi stakeholders
  • Oversight of recruitment and engagement pipelines and their accurate population
  • Providing insight into the improvement of recruitment and engagement workflows
  • Monitoring of recruitment and engagement reports and extraction of data insights

 

Training and Public Relations

  • Working closely with the Country Lead to make presentations to the Ministry of Education, Wavumbuzi partner organizations and key stakeholders
  • Facilitating group and one-on-one training sessions with all challenge participants
  • Delivering presentations to promote the challenge amongst challenge participant leads
  • Leading exhibitions to promote the challenge in partner and industry events
  • Coordinating school activations across the country with the support of Wavumbuzi Ambassadors and Calling Agents
  • Contributing to industry talks and seminars to establish position as thought leadership
  • Managing inbound support queries, helping onboard teachers and logging any issues with the Technical Team

 

People Management

  • Coordinating remote team of Wavumbuzi Ambassadors and Calling Agents across the country
  • Remote training and onboarding of Wavumbuzi Ambassadors
  • Communicating with, managing and motivating the team of Wavumbuzi Ambassador and overseeing incentives/rewards structure
  • Allocating responsibilities and maintaining accountability amongst team members
  • Maintaining a calm, rational temperament when faced with hurdles, problems or frustrations
  • Exercising sensitivity towards individuals’ personal and professional ambitions, issues and concerns
  • Working closely with the Country Lead identify, onboard and coordinate Innovation Experts and Mentors /

 

Coaches Content/Curriculum Support

  • Supporting contextualization of challenge designs with alignment to the Ministry of Education entrepreneurship and/or business curriculum
  • Participating in creation of lesson guides and other support resources
  • Preparing presentations, talks and training curriculums
  • Supporting the pitch competition and related coaching support as well as the mentoring of top achievers

 

Measurement and Evaluation

  • Active research/ testing of different interventions and strategies, to increase user engagement and minimize user attrition (Growth Hacking)
  • Presenting regular operational progress reports and insights to the leadership team
  • Timely reporting and using data to drive / motivate decision making
  • Assisting with the moderation of challenge scores, identification of top achievers and selection of appropriate prizes / awards
  • Participating in research including measuring what effects the Wavumbuzi Program is making in the entrepreneurial mindset development of learners

 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attending, reporting and contributing to team meetings
  • Supporting the Project Manager in coordinating event logistics
  • Operating effectively within the standard operating procedures (use of Asana, Slack, and any other systems as required)
  • When necessary, supporting the team in executing projects across various disciplines; including copywriting; briefing designs; data management; public relations; strategy development; website management; reporting; and event management.
  • Carrying out administrative tasks as required to implement and monitor initiatives
  • Any other tasks or responsibilities that the employer may reasonably expect
